SERVICE INFORMATION
This bulletin contains Parts information and Service Procedures to rebuild a leaking 300ZX steering gear. Leaks from the gear can be external or internal
as described below:

External Leaks:

External leaks occur at fittings, on hoses, or through porosity in the steering gear housing. Always replace faulty or leaky hydraulic
lines. For leaks at a fitting, loosen and retighten the fitting. The steering gear must be replaced if a fitting is cross-threaded,
stripped, cracked or if the leak is caused by porosity.

Internal Leaks:

Internal leaks occur through seals inside the gear and result in fluid leaks at the steering gear boots, pinion input shaft or retainer
locknut. To repair a 300ZX gear with internal leakage, a complete rebuild is required.

A new rebuild seal kit and cylinder end housing assembly are available to simplify the rebuild procedure. The rebuild procedure and seal kit described
provide a tested and proven repair of the power steering gear and should eliminate the need to replace the rack assembly. WARRANTABLE RACK
ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT REQUIRES PRIOR APPROVAL OF THE DISTRICT SERVICE MANAGER OR NISSAN REGIONAL OFFICE.

Current orders for warranty rack assemblies, to repair internal leaks, must be cancelled by the dealership parts department and replaced with orders for
the rebuild seal kit and cylinder end housing assembly. These parts should be ordered on the same status as the current 'on order' parts, depending upon
the need, (i.e. , critical rack assemblies on order should be replaced with critical rebuild seal kits and cylinder end housing assembly orders).

For your convenience, an exploded view of the steering gear assembly is provided on page 2/12. It contains proper part names and tightening torques.
