Claims will be paid only for 1997-1997.5 Altima vehicles within the affected serial number range. In the event a dealer elects to replace a lot number 023
or 029 buckle with one from another vehicle in dealer inventory, THE WARRANTY CLAIM MUST BE SUBMITTED FOR THE VEHICLE FROM
WHICH THE INCIDENT BUCKLE WAS REMOVED.

Dear Nissan Owner,

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Nissan has determined that the rear 
seat belt buckles in some 1997 Altima vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 209 - Seat Belt Assemblies. This standard
specifies various requirements for seat belt assemblies.

Reason for Recall

A component in the rear seat belt buckles may not have been manufactured to the proper specification. Rear seat belt buckle assemblies with this
component may not meet the strength requirements of Standard No. 209. In the event of a collision, the rear seat belt buckle may become disconnected
from the webbing, and increase the chance of injury.

What Nissan Will Do

Your Nissan dealer will inspect the rear seat belt buckles and replace them, if necessary, at no charge to you. This inspection/repair should take less than
one hour, but your dealer's schedule may require that you leave your car for a greater length of time. In some instances, it may be necessary to order the
seat belt buckles for your car.

What You Should Do

Contact your Nissan dealer and make an appointment to have your rear seat belt buckles inspected. Please bring this notice with you when you keep your
service appointment. If the dealer fails or is unable to make the necessary repairs free of charge, please contact Nissan's National Consumer Affairs
