SERVICE INFORMATION

If a 1997 Altima has the MIL "on" and DTC P0130 (front heated oxygen sensor circuit) and/or P0136 (rear heated oxygen sensor circuit) stored in Self
Diagnosis, there may be corrosion in the engine control module (ECM) and harness connector sockets.

If corrosion exists CONSULT Freeze Frame Date will indicate the DIG was stored shortly after start during engine warm-up. However the 02 sensors
will respond normally when checked at warm engine. Use the following diagnosis and repair for this incident.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Check the 02 sensor voltage in CONSULT Data Monitor mode immediately after starting a cold engine. If it is greater than 1.0 volts, the ECM
connection is corroded. You may be able to visibly confirm corrosion on the edges of the ECM connector male pins or inside the female sockets of
the ECM connector from the engine control harness (corrosion is typically a blue/green discoloration).

2.

If voltage was greater than 1.0 volts or corrosion was visible, do the following:

Replace the ECM (see Figure 1).
