IMPROPER AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT TIMING
SERVICE INFORMATION
Some 1990 Axxess vehicles equipped with Automatic Transmissions may exhibit these improper shift timing characteristics:
^
no upshift after transmission kick-down
^
no downshift after a stop
^
no shift into overdrive
FIGURE 1
A possible cause of this improper shifting may be incorrect routing of the Automatic Transmission breather hose, causing it to interfere with throttle
(transmission kick-down) wire* movement (Figure 1).
NOTE:
The transmission throttle wire allows the transmission to sense throttle position. However, it has no effect on throttle opening.
FIGURE 2
If a customer complains about the symptoms listed above, prior to starting the recomended automatic transmission diagnostic procedures found in the
Service Manual, visibly check the routing of the breather hose to see if it interferes with throttle wire operation. If necessary, re-route the breather hose
away from the throttle wire (Figure 2).
