SERVICE INFORMATION:

On some 1990 D21 4WD vehicles equipped with a YA24E engine an oil leak may develop from the oil pan or the rear oil seal/retainer area. This may
develop as a result of the improper application of liquid gasket to the oil pan and/or rear oil seal retainer near the notch at the base of the oil seal retainer.
The appearance of oil spots may be noticed when the vehicle is parked.

SERVICE PROCEDURE:

As a countermeasure for this incident, additional liquid gasket must be applied to the notched area at the base of the rear oil seal retainer and at the rear
of the oil pan as illustrated below:

CAUTION: Excessive liquid gasket can enter oil system and plug screen.

1.

Remove oil pan.

2.

Remove rear oil seal retainer. Replace rear oil seal.

3.

Scrape off all traces of the old liquid gasket from the oil pan, retainer, and cylinder block surfaces.

4.

Apply new liquid gasket to retainer as shown in figure 1 and install it on the engine within 5 minutes.
