Do not remove excess metal.

Apply a thin layer of lubricating grease (ie; C.V. Joint Grease which contains Molybdenum) to the pin contact surfaces.

Finally, check for proper operation by moving shift lever firmly into the "Park" position and releasing the shift lever button. When released, the
button should extend completely out of the shift handle; this in turn activates the lock solenoid.
