FREE-RUNNING HUB NOISE

APPLIED MODELS: 1986.5-88 4WD Truck (D21) 1987-88 Pathfinder (WD21)

SERVICE INFORMATION

On certain Applied Vehicles, noise will sometimes emit from the auto-lock free-running hub when the transfer control lever is improperly operated or
when the vehicle is being driven under certain conditions. Use the TroubleShooting Flow Chart on pages 2, 3 and 4 to determine the cause of the noise.

Instruct owners that complain of noise in auto-lock hubs that:

1.

Noise occurring in the auto-lock hub under any of the conditions described on pages 2, 3 and 4, is not indicative of a problem.

2.

Noise can be eliminated by properly operating the transfer lever on the vehicle.

3.

A noise in one hub is indicative of an abnormal condition in the opposite hub.
