Crankshaft Main Bearing: Specifications
Main Bearing Cap Loosening/Tightening Sequence

LOOSENING

1. Measure and record crankshaft end play.
2. Following the sequence shown, remove the bearing caps bolts in two or three steps. 

TIGHTENING

1. Apply new engine oil to the bolt threads and seat surface.
2. Prior to tightening bearing cap bolts, place bearing cap in its proper position by shifting crankshaft in the axial direction.
3. Install crankshaft and main bearing beam and tighten bolts to 46 - 52 Nm (34 - 38 ft. lbs.). 

Tightening Sequence

NOTE:  Tighten bearing cap bolts gradually in two or three stages. Start with center bearing and move outward,  as shown in figure.

4. After securing bearing cap bolts, make sure crankshaft turns smoothly by hand.
5. Measure crankshaft end play. The standard value is 0.05 - 0.13 mm (0.0020 - 0.0071 inch) and the limit is 0.3 mm (0.012 inch). If beyond the

limit, replace bearing with a new one.
