About the Frontier
In North America the Frontier replaced the Hardbody for the 1998 model year. The first generation (D22) was replaced by the D40 for 2005, which was built in the US for the US and Canadian markets until 2021. The Frontier is a version of the pickup sold elsewhere as the Navara or NP300.
What these manuals cover
- 1998–2004 (D22): the 2.4-litre four (KA24DE), the 3.3-litre V6 (VG33E) and, from 2001, the supercharged 3.3 V6 (VG33ER), in regular, King Cab and Crew Cab form.
- 2005–2009 (D40): the 2.5-litre four (QR25DE) and the 4.0-litre V6 (VQ40DE).
Tip: the Xterra shares the Frontier's platform and engines in both generations.
