2000-2001 MAXIMA WITH M/T; ON/OFF THROTTLE SENSITIVITY
APPLIED VEHICLES:
2000-2001 Maxima (A33) with Manual Transmission (M/T) Only
SERVICE INFORMATION
If a manual transmission 2000 or 2001 Maxima exhibits the following symptom:

On/off throttle sensitivity in first gear at low engine/vehicle speeds (1400-1800 rpm) during slight accelerator pedal movement.
The cause may be fuel cut/recovery transition when the throttle is closed and then opened slightly.
A new ECM program is available that will eliminate fuel cut/recovery at engine speeds below 1800 rpm. Use the Service Procedure provided in this
bulletin to reprogram the vehicle's ECM and resolve the incident.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Check For Stored DTC's:
Using CONSULT-II, check for stored DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) by selecting "ENGINE" and "SELF-DIAG RESULTS":

If no stored DTC's are found, proceed to Emissions Certification, below.

If stored DTC's. are found, use the appropriate Service Manual DTC Procedures to further diagnose and repair. Then proceed to Emissions
Certification, below.
Emissions Certification
Determine the vehicle's Emissions Certification (California or Federal):
1.
All 2001 Maxima vehicles have California emissions certification.
2.
For 2000 Maxima vehicles, you need to determine it the vehicle is certified for California or Federal emissions. Check the Emissions Certification
Label on the underside of the engine hood to verify if the certificate is for California emissions (see Figure 1). If there is no mention of California
on the label, the vehicle is certified for Federal emissions.
