Fast Idle Control Device (FICD)

Throttle Body (Exploded View)

The FICD (Fast Idle Control Device), located on the base of the throttle chamber, is a small electrical solenoid that when energized moves a
plunger. It is used to raise the idle speed when an additional load is placed on the engine. When the ECU senses conditions necessary for an
increase in idle speed, it energizes the FICD solenoid (located on the throttle chamber). This opens an air passage that allows an additional amount
of air to by-pass the throttle plate, raising the idle speed.

Under the following conditions the FICD is activated:
^ When the A/C compressor is engaged.
