SERVICE INFORMATION
Some 1987 Pathfinders and 4WD Trucks with automatic transmission may exhibit intermittent torque converter lock-up in reverse when cold. The
symptom is that the engine dies after a cold start when the foot brake is applied and the transmission lever is placed in the "R" position. This lock-up is
intermittent and is affected by the ambient temperature.
This torque converter lock-up is caused by an incorrect signal transmitted from the A/T Control Unit to the Lock-Up Solenoid. This can be verified by
measuring the voltage between Pin 3 (yellow wire) and Pin 5 (black wire) of the A/T Control Unit Connector (as shown below) when the incident occurs.
