Oil Pump: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air duct from engine compartment.
3. Remove cooling fan.
4. Disconnect upper and lower radiator hoses.
5. Remove fan shroud.
6. Remove drive belts.
7. Remove crankshaft pulley and front and lower belt covers.
8. Remove undercover, then drain engine oil.
9. On 4x2 models, remove stabilizer bracket bolts.

10. On 4x4 models, proceed as follows:

a. Disconnect front propeller shaft from differential carrier.
b. Remove front driveshaft attaching bolts.
c. Remove front differential carrier member bolts.
d. Support front differential carrier with suitable jack and remove attaching fixing bolts.
e. Remove front differential carrier bleeder hose.

11. On 4x2 models, remove front suspension crossmember.
12. On 4x4 models, proceed as follows:

a. Remove differential front mounting bolts.
b. Remove front differential carrier.
c. Remove front differential carrier mounting bracket.

13. On all models, remove idler arm.
14. Remove starter motor.
15. On 4x4 models, proceed as follows:

a. Remove transmission to rear engine mounting bracket attaching nuts.
b. Remove engine mounting bolts or nuts.

19. Remove engine gussets.
20. On 4x4 models, raise engine if necessary and disconnect exhaust tube.

21. On all models, remove oil pan attaching bolts and the oil pan. Loosen bolts in sequence, Fig. 1.
22. Remove oil strainer, Fig. 17.
