Lower Ball Joint - Factory Revision

BALL JOINT AXIAL END PLAY, 720,720Y

Applied Models:

1982 720 and 720Y (Beginning production: April 22, 1982)

The lower ball joint of the 720 pickup has been modified. The new part has less axial end play and contains a spring to maintain minimum clearance
throughout the service life of the ball joint.

The new part may also be applied to 1980-81 720 and 720Y vehicles. However, prior to installation of new ball joints, use the following inspection
procedure to determine if the present ball joints should be replaced:

Inspection

1.

Raise the front of vehicle and install safety floor stands under both lower links as far outboard as possible. The upper links must not contact the
rubber rebound bumpers.

With the weight of vehicle on the lower link, install dial indicator and clamp assembly to lower link.

3.

Position dial indicator plunger tip against the ball joint stud and zero the dial indicator.
