Compression Check: Testing and Inspection

Warm up engine and remove injection nozzles as outlined in this section.

Install compression gauge and adapter in cylinder head, Fig. 32, making sure bleeder screw is closed. Diesel engine compression must be tested
with a suitable gauge. A gasoline engine compression tester is not suitable for the higher pressures generated by a diesel engine.
3.
Crank engine and observe readings. Pressures should be 356-427 psi with no more than 43 psi difference between cylinders.
4.
Remove compression gauge assembly and loosen bleeder screw. Reinstall fuel injection tubes and bleed fuel system.
