EGR & Canister Control Solenoid Valve: Description and Operation
EGR/Canister Control Solenoid Valve
PURPOSE
Allows the Engine Control Module (ECM) to operate the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) /Canister Control Solenoid Valve.
OPERATION
The EGR / Canister Control Solenoid Valve has two modes: it is either energized by the ECM and vents vacuum or it is de-energized and allows
vacuum to pass to the EGR-Back Pressure Transducer Valve.
The EGR Control Solenoid is ENERGIZED (vents vacuum) when:
^ Engine RPM is less than 800
^ Engine RPM is more than 5200
^ Engine coolant temperature is below 60° C (140° F)
^ Vehicle speed is less than 11 mph (18 km/h)
The EGR Control Solenoid is DE-ENERGIZED (allows vacuum) when:
^ Any other condition other than above.
