SERVICE INFORMATION
Some 1987-88 Sentra and Pulsar vehicles may exhibit a rattle or buzzing noise from the center of the instrument panel at engine speeds of 2500-3500
RPM.
If a customer complains of this type of noise, perform the following diagnostics to determine if the speedometer cable is the cause.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Use the following procedure to verify speedometer cable noise:
1.
Start engine with transmission in neutral (M/T) or park (A/T). Raise RPM to 3500 and hold for 5-10 seconds.
2.
Listen for rattling or buzzing from the speedometer head area.
3.
Return engine to idle and turn off ignition.
4.
Disconnect speedometer cable from transaxle and let hang. Be sure to position the cable so that it isn't touching the engine or transaxle.
5.
Repeat steps 1 through 3.
If the noise can be heard in Step 2, but is not present during Step 5, replace the speedometer cable assembly with the improved (insulated) cable
assembly listed below. If the noise is still present, reinstall the speedometer cable and contact the FIXS Hotline for additional information.
