SERVICE INFORMATION

If a 1989-90 Sentra or Pulsar, equipped with the GA16i engine, exhibits a rattle or knocking noise from the timing chain system, use the following flow
chart to determine the cause of the noise before replacing the timing chain tensioner.

NOTE:

When replacing the tensioner gasket, use only the appropriate Nissan gasket. Use of liquid gasket will block the tensioner oil feed hole,
causing timing chain noise.
