Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTION
The electric engine cooling fan is controlled by the PCM based on inputs from the engine coolant sensor, intake air temperature sensor , the A/C
control switch, A/C refrigerant pressure sensor and the speed sensor.
OPERATION
The fan normally operates when engine coolant temperature is above 226°F, A/C is requested and vehicle speed is below 70 mph. The fan will run if
A/C refrigerant pressure sensor is open or pressure is greater than 187 psi. If diagnostic trouble codes (DTC 14, 15, or 70) are set then the cooling fan
will run. The cooling fan will turn Off 30 seconds after coolant temperature drops below 219°F.
