Brake Shoe: Service and Repair
Installation

CLEAN
Wash all brake hardware in clean denatured alcohol. Clean adjusting screw (4) threads with a wire brush. Inspect threads of adjusting screw for
smooth rotation over full length. If any parts are of doubtful strength or quality due to discoloration from heat, over-stress, or are worn, the parts
should be replaced.
INSPECT
Wheel cylinder for leakage and cut or damaged boots.
Leading/Trailing Brake Components
INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate six raised shoe pads on backing plate assembly (13).
2. Lubricate anchor surfaces on backing plate assembly (13) that contact lower ends of brake shoes.
NOTE : During the following steps when installing the retractor spring (9) into either shoe and lining assembly, do not over stretch the spring.
This will reduce its effectiveness.
3. If retractor spring (9) was removed, reinstall hooking center spring section under tab on anchor.
4. Install park brake shoe and lining assembly (8).

Position shoe and lining on backing plate assembly (13).
