Brake Warning System: Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
System Check
PROCEDURE
1. With the Park Brake released, turn the Ignition Switch slowly past the RUN position to BULB TEST.

BRAKE Indicator should light.
2. Turn the Ignition Switch to the RUN position.

BRAKE Indicator should not light.
3. With the Ignition Switch in RUN, apply the Park Brake.

BRAKE Indicator should light.
4. Release the Park Brake.

BRAKE Indicator should not light.
Troubleshooting Hints
Try the following checks before performing other diagnosis.
1. Check the GAGES Fuse by operating the Rear Defogger and observing the indicator.
2. Check that ground G202 is clean and tight.
3. If brake fluid is low and the BRAKE indicator does not light, check the Brake Fluid Level Switch.
On models with Daytime Running Lights (DRL):
4. If the DRL Module does not operate and BRAKE indicator is always lit, check the Park Brake Switch and YEL (634) wire for a short to ground.
5. If the BRAKE Indicator does not light with the Park Brake applied and the Park Brake has no effect on Daytime Running Lights feature, check the
YEL (634) wire and the Park Brake Switch for an open.
6. If the BRAKE Indicator does not light with Park Brake applied but the Daytime Running Lights feature opeates properly, check TAN/WHT (33)
wire between splice S205 and the DRL Module.
