ECM Service
REMOVAL:
1.
Turn ignition to "OFF".
2.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
3.
Remove right hand hush panel.
4.
Disconnect connectors from the ECM
5.
Remove ECM mounting hardware.
6.
Remove ECM from the passenger compartment.
7.
Remove ECM access cover.
8.
Transfer PROM unit to replacement ECM.
Using two fingers, push both retaining clips back away from the PROM. At the same time, grasp it at both ends and lift it up out of the socket. Do
not remove the cover of the PROM. Use of unapproved PROM removal methods may cause damage to the PROM or socket.
9.
Remove new ECM from its packaging and check the service number to make sure it is the same as the defective ECM.
10.
Remove access cover.
INSTALLATION:
1.
Install PROM in PROM socket.
a. Align small notches in PROM socket.
b. Gently press down on the ends of the PROM until the clips are against the sides of the PROM.
NOTE: Do not press on the ends of the PROM until the clips snap into place. Doing so may damage the ECM and/or PROM.
c. Press inward on clips until they snap into place.
2.
Install access cover on ECM.
3.
Install ECM in passenger compartment.
4.
Reconnect connectors to the ECM.
5.
Install right hand hush panel.
6.
Reconnect battery ground cable.
FUNCTIONAL CHECK:
1.
Turn the ignition "ON."
2.
Enter diagnostics.
a.
Allow DTC 12 to flash four times to verify no other DTCs are present. This indicates the PROM is installed properly and the ECM is
functioning. NOTICE: A delay of up to 30 seconds may occur between the third and fourth time DTC 12 is flashed.
b.
If DTC 42, 43, or 51 occur, or if the "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" light is "ON" constantly with no codes, PROM is not fully seated or is
defective. If not fully seated, press firmly on the ends of the PROM until they snap into place.
