SUBJECT:
DISTORTED OR NO SOUND FROM RIGHT FRONT SPEAKER

(DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE)

MODEL:
1994 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SUPREME

CONDITION:

Some owners may comment about a distorted sound, or no sound, from the right front speaker.

CAUSE:

The amplifier, used with the UQ3 speaker system, may have had a screw driven through the internal speaker leads during component assembly. A similar
condition could also occur if a vehicle speaker wire were shorted during vehicle assembly.

CORRECTION:

Use the following procedure to determine whether the amplifier should be replaced:

1.

Locate the amplifier as shown in the 1994 Service Manual, Section 8C-18, Figure 20.

2.

With the amplifier connected, and the radio power off, measure the resistance to ground at terminals 1 and 2 of the connector. The connector is
shown in detail on page 8A-150-5.

If both speaker leads read open, this bulletin will not apply. Use normal diagnostic methods to correct the condition.

If either speaker lead shows low resistance, disconnect the amplifier connector and measure the resistance to ground of the leads TO THE SPEAKERS.
If either of these leads show anything but open from speaker pin to ground, look for pinched or shorted leads in the vehicle wiring. If both leads read
open, replace the amplifier with P/N 16193123.
