Drive Belt Tensioner: Testing and Inspection
Drive Belt Tensioner Assembly
If belt slippage occurs and drive belt tensioner assembly is within its operating range, check belt tension.
Tool Required:
J 23600-B V-Belt Tension Gage
1. Run engine assembly for 10 minutes.
2. Shut off engine assembly and check belt tension between any two pulleys, using J 23600-B.

Record reading.
3. Run engine assembly for 30 seconds.
4. Repeat step 2.
5. Run engine assembly for 30 seconds.
6. Repeat step 2.
7. Belt tension is average of three readings taken.

Serpentine drive belt tension should be 467 to 556 N (105 to 125 lb.).
8. Replace drive belt tensioner assembly (45) if belt tension is below minimum specified and if drive belt tensioner assembly is within its operating
range.
