A new brake lining material was used in the 1989 Ninety-Eight and Eighty-Eight models equipped with Teves Antilock Brake System. This new material
reduces the potential for brake squeal, but has a reduced coefficient of friction and should NOT be installed on 1986-89 vehicles equipped with base
brakes.
This new lining material was installed in 1989 Ninety-Eight and Eighty-Eight models equipped with Teves Antilock Brake System (ABS) beginning with
the following VIN numbers:
Plant
Ninety-Eight
Eighty-Eight
Buick City
KH302775
Orion
K4332788
Wentzville
K1353313
K1820662
Willow Run
KW310497
Beginning with 1990 production, the brake apply system on Ninety-Eight and Eighty-Eight models equipped with base brakes will be modified to
provide more assist, and will be equipped with the new brake pads.
NOTICE:
DO NOT use brake pad part number 12321453 (Edge Code DM 342 EE) to service 1986-1989 Ninety-Eight and Eighty-Eight models
unless they are equipped with antilock brakes (ABS). These pads have a lower coefficient of friction than the pads used on vehicles
equipped with base brakes, and could result in increased pedal effort requirements if installed in 1986-89 vehicles with base brakes.
This new lining material may be used to service the following vehicles:
-
1986 through 1989 Ninety-Eight and Eighty-Eight models with Antilock Brake System (ABS)
-
1990 Ninety-Eight and Eighty-Eight models with base brakes or with Antilock Brake System (ABS).
