Audible Warning Device: Description and Operation
Reminder Package
General Information
For Oldsmobile the Multi-Function Chime (MFC) control module is located on the multi-use bracket behind the I/P Compartment. The MFC module has
no audible output. For all chime warnings, the MFC control module grounds Terminal B6. This signals the body control module (MALL) to sound a
chime. The MFC control module provides the following warnings:
^
High Coolant Temperature
^
Low Oil Pressure
^
Low Brake Fluid Level
^
Low Oil Level
^
Low Coolant Level
^
Low Washer Fluid Level
Hi Coolant Temperature Warning
The Coolant Temperature Sensor determines when the engine coolant is too hot and signals the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) at Connector C2
terminal 52. The PCM then grounds Multi-Function Chime (MFC) control module. Terminal B5 and the TEMP indicator in the Instrument Cluster. A
fast-pulsed chime sounds briefly and the TEMP indicator lights and stays on even after the chime stops. The ignition switch provides a bulb check of the
TEMP indicator when the ignition switch is in BULB TEST or START.
LO Brake Fluid Level Warning
When there is low brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir, Multi-Function Chime (MFC) control module Terminal A6 is grounded and a fast
chime sounds briefly. The BRAKE Indicator also lights in the Instrument Cluster.
LO Coolant Level Warning
When there is low coolant level in the radiator, the oil level module grounds Multi-Function Chime (MFC) control module Terminal B7 and a slow brief
chime sounds. Refer to Diagrams for wiring details. See: Diagrams
LO Oil Level Warning
When there is low oil level in the oil pan, the oil level module grounds Multi-Function Chime (MFC) control module Terminal B1, and a slow, brief
chime sounds. Refer to Digrams for wiring details. See: Diagrams
LO Oil Pressure Warning
When the oil pressure is low. Multi-Function Chime (MFC) control module Terminal B8 is grounded. If the voltage at Terminal A4, engine running
input, is above 5.1 volts, a fast-pulsed chime sounds briefly and the OIL Indicator lights the Instrument Cluster.
LO Washer Fluid Level Warning
When the washer fluid level is low, Multi-Function Chime (MFC) control module Terminal A2 is grounded. A slow, brief chime sounds and the control
module turns on its output at Terminal A1 to light the LOW WASHER FLUID Indicator in the Instrument Cluster.
