Tire Monitoring System: Description and Operation
Tire Pressure Monitor System Operation
The Electronic Brake Traction Control Module (EBTCM) contains the software to perform the tire pressure monitor system functions. The EBTCM
uses wheel speed data obtained from the wheel speed sensors to detect relative pressure differences of 10 psi. This means that one tire is at least 10 psi
lower in pressure than the other three. The EBTCM uses only smooth data. Braking, an acceleration or deceleration of greater than 0.1 g, and/or any
Antilock Brake System/Traction Control System (ABS/TCS) activity causes the EBTCM to stop perform tire pressure monitor system functions.
When the EBTCM detects a low tire pressure condition, the EBTCM sends a message to the instrument cluster via the Class II serial data link to turn on
the LOW TIRE PRESSURE indicator lamp.
RESETTING THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM
1. Check and correct the air pressure on all tires. Refer to TIRE INFLATION DESCRIPTION in TIRES AND WHEELS for more information.
2. Turn the ignition switch on.
3. Press the tire reset switch located in the fuse block until the LOW TIRE PRESSURE indicator lamp turns off.
4. Release the button and the system is now reset.
