Fuel Pump Relay: Description and Operation
PURPOSE
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) utilizes the fuel pump relay to control fuel pump operation.
OPERATION
When the ignition switch is on the PCM supplies power signal to the coil side of the fuel pump relay. The magnetic field generated by the coil
causes the switch portion of the relay to energize the fuel pump circuit.
The fuel pump will remain "ON" as long as the PCM receives low resolution reference pulses from the ignition system. If ignition pulses are not
present the PCM will de-energize the fuel pump circuit in 2-3 seconds after key is turned "ON" or engine stops.
