SIR Control Module (Passenger Compartment Sensor): Description and Operation
The SIR control module contains the passenger compartment sensor and the inflatable restraint system diagnostics. The SIR control module diagnostic
system monitors the accuracy of the inflatable restraint sensing components and wiring harness and controls the warning lamp.
The SIR control module monitors vehicle deceleration and combines this information with signals from the forward sensor to determine whether
deployment is necessary. An electrical pulse is sent to the steering wheel module when a forward sensor closure, or a signal from the passenger
compartment sensor, and an arming sensor closure occur simultaneously.
