Ball Joint: Testing and Inspection
1.
Raise front of vehicle allowing front suspension to hang free.
2.
Grasp tire at top and bottom and move top of tire in an in-and-out motion.
3.
Observe for any horizontal movement of knuckle relative to the control arm.
4.
Ball joints must be replaced if any looseness is detected in the joint or ball joint seal is cut.
5.
Check ball stud tightness by shaking tire. Observe for any looseness of ball stud tightness in knuckle boss.
