1.
Remove parking brake lever from caliper, then remove caliper assembly as outlined.
2.
Rotate shoe retainer until tabs are aligned with recesses in piston, then remove shoe retainer, Fig. 2.
3.
Secure caliper assembly in vise and insulate interior of caliper with shop towels.
4.
Remove piston by rotating actuator screw in parking brake apply direction to work piston from caliper bore.
5.
Remove balance spring (24), then remove actuator screw by pressing on threaded end, Fig. 2.
6.
Remove seal and thrust washer from actuator screw.
7.
Pry dust boot from caliper taking care not to damage caliper.
8.
Remove piston locator snap ring, then the locator.
9.
Remove piston seal, taking care not to mar caliper bore, then remove bleeder screw.
10.
Clean components with suitable brake cleaner and wipe dry with lint free shop towels.
11.
Inspect piston for scoring nicks, corrosion, wear and damage and replace as needed.
12.
Inspect caliper housing and seal groove for damage, corrosion, nicks, scoring and excessive wear, and use crocus cloth to polish away corrosion
from housing bore. Replace caliper housing if damaged or if corrosion in and around seal groove will not clean up with crocus cloth.
