Bumper - Painting and Refinishing Procedure

SUBJECT:
PAINTING AND REFINISHING FRONT AND REAR BUMPER MATERIAL
MODELS:
ALL 405 VEHICLES
PREPARATION:
If a new bumper is to be painted, it is advisable to first warm the bumper with a heat lamp in order to secrete any residual Mold Release Agent (MRA).
Then wash with hot soapy water and proceed as follows:
Procedure A:For Use With "Sherwin Williams" Products
405 SEDAN (FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS) 405 SPORTSWAGON (FRONT BUMPER ONLY)

Wipe the surface with a rag and R1K213 Solvent.

Lightly scuff - sand area to be refinished with # 600 Grit or finer (take care not to gouge the plastic)

Solvent wipe again and tack off.

Prime with P3C24.
-
If filling is required (body colored section of bumper) apply P2A43 and seal with E2A28 or P1A60.

Apply appropriate top coat.
405 SPORTSWAGON (REAR BUMPER ONLY)
-
Wipe the surface with a rag and R1K213 Solvent.
-
Lightly scuff - sand area to be finished with # 600 Grit or finer (take care not to gouge the plastic)
-
Solvent wipe again and tack-off.
-
If filling is required apply P2A43 and seal with E2A28 or P1A60.
-
Apply appropriate top coat.
Procedure B:For Use With "Sikkens" Products
405 SEDAN (FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS) 405 SPORTSWAGON (FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS)

Degrease with M-600 Degreaser.

Scuff - sand area to be refinished with # 320 dry paper or red scuffing pad.
-
Wash down with Sikkens Anti-Static.
-
Degrease again with M-600 Degreaser.

Apply Plastoflex Primer as an adhesion primer for plastic parts. Spray two medium coats allowing 5 to 10 minutes flash time
between coats. (This product is ready to spray, no mixing is necessary.)

Top coat after 20 minutes, without sanding, with Autocryl, Autobase, or Autonova.
NOTE:
For refinishing Plastoflex with Autocryl, Autobase, or Autonova it is necessary to use a flex Agent in the top coat as follows:
FOR AUTOCRYL USE ELATOACTIF
AUTOCRYL + ELASTOACTIF + 1.2.3 HARDENER + 1.2.3 REDUCER
70 parts + 30 parts (= 100 parts) + 50 parts + 30 parts
