Brake Caliper: Service and Repair

Removal

1.

Remove brake pads, then loosen nut on brake line.

2.

Place plug in brake line and save pipe retainer.

3.

Remove hose and plug caliper hole.

4.

Remove bolt to immobilize guide, then disconnect parking brake cable from caliper.

5.

Remove caliper. Do not drain brake fluid from caliper.

Installation

1.

Replacement caliper are supplied with brake fluid. To prevent unnecessary bleeding, do not drain fluid when installing calipers.

2.

Install caliper at upper bolt first, holding caliper at lower side.

3.

Coat new lower bolt with Loctite, then install in lower side of caliper.

4.

Connect brake pipe, hose and pipe retainer.

5.

Install brake pads and torque bolts to 26 ft. lbs.

6.

Connect parking brake cable, then bleed brake system.

7.

Pump brake pedal several times while engine is running. Continue until pedal feels hard. Check parking brake adjustment if required.
