Fuel Gauge: Customer Interest
Fuel Gauge - Intermittent or Innoperative
BULLETIN NO. 355
DATE:
July, 1989
SUBJECT:
INTERMITTENT OR TOTALLY INOPERATIVE "VEGLIA" FUEL GAUGE
MODELS:
1989 405 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH "VEGLIA" INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
COMPLAINT:
A.
Intermittent or totally inoperative fuel gauge
B.
Fuel gauge "bounces" up and down after starting vehicle
REASON:
A.
An intermittent or totally inoperative fuel gauge may be due to poor electrical contact areas caused by insufficient tightening of the fuel gauge
unit onto the instrument cluster main P/C board or between the gauge and its own electronic board
B.
With fuel level below 3/4 full, anytime the vehicle is started and driven away "briskly" within the first 30 seconds after start-up, the fuel
gauge needle will "bounce" up and down for the remaining time on the 30-second built-in stabilizer delay.
This operating characteristic on 1989 models equipped with Veglia instrument clusters has been reduced from 30 seconds to 3 seconds on
1990 MY vehicles. The 1990 type electronic fuel gauge board is now the only replacement part available for both model year vehicles.
