SUBJECT:
INTERMITTENT STALLING OF J2 ENGINE
MODELS:
405 DL AND S VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH STANDARD OR AUTOMATIC
TRANSMISSION
COMPLAINT:
We have experienced a couple of cases of intermittent stalling (cutting out) of the engine under no specific set of conditions. engine could be cold, warm,
or hot at idle speed. The engine will always restart on the first attempt and may no longer stall after the initial onset of stalling.
PARTS REQUIRED:
4 spark plugs, P/N 5962.H8
FIELD FIX:
1.
Replace original Eyquem spark plugs FC42LS with resistor type spark plugs of the same make and heatrange, bearing the same reference FC42LS.
Spark Plug Identification:
-
Original factory installed non-resistor type: terminal nut with green dot on top
-
Original replacement non-resistor type: brass color terminal nut
-
New replacement resistor type: terminal nut with green tinting
Torque new spark plugs to 2.75 mdaN (20 ft.lbs.).
2.
Ensure that spark plug/coil wires are fully inserted into distributor cap and coil.
Replace spark plug/coil wires that show any signs of arcing from not having been fully pushed in.
3.
Check idle speed and adjust if necessary to 850 +/- 50 RPM
