Curb Idle Speed

Prior to setting idle speed, ensure ignition system is in proper working order, air cleaner is clean and in place, cooling fans and A/C compressor are
released and transmission is in N or P. Conduct ``Throttle Switch Adjustment,'' ``First Throttle Adjustment'' and ``Second Throttle Adjustment''
procedure prior to adjusting idle speed.

To adjust idle speed, turn idle speed setting screw (1) to obtain 800-900 RPM, Fig. 12.  

Fast Idle Speed

1.

Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature, and that curb idle speed and idle mixture are properly adjusted.

2.

Disconnect hose with red sleeve from Solex valve, hose with green sleeve from vacuum tee, then connect hose with red sleeve to tee to activate
fast idle throttle kicker.

3.

Start engine, then check that engine fast idle is 1500 RPM.

4.

If engine speed is incorrect, adjust Allen screw on throttle kicker after removing cap nut.

5.

Once adjustment is made, reconnect vacuum hoses to Solex valve and tee.

6.

Loosen locknut on Solex valve and without acting on throttle, screw in threaded rod to obtain fast idle speed of 1500.

7.

Accelerate engine to 3000 RPM and allow to return to idle. Slowly unscrew threaded rod until idle returns to normal.

8.

Tighten locknut, taking care not to force diaphragm. Hold valve body while tightening locknut.
