405 MANUAL TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER BOOT PULLS OUT OF SURROUNDING TRIM
THIS BULETIN SUPERCEDES SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 289, DATED AUGUST 1988, ADDING A STIFFENER PLATE FOR AN IMPROVED
REPAIR
POTENTIALLY AFFECTED VEHICLES:
Early production 405 vehicles with manual transmission (current production has been corrected).
PARTS REQUIRED:
(1) Clip, P/N 6991.57
(1)
Stiffener Plate, P/N 0075.87
DESCRIPTION:
The manual shift lever boot pulls away from rear side of plastic frame, as shown below:
REMEDY:
-
Insert the stiffener plate (P/N 0075.87) into the stitched rear loop of the boot, as indicated in the drawing below

Install one metallic clip (P/N 6991.57) in the middle of the rear ledge of the plastic frame. Make sure the vertical part of the clip is facing upward,
to keep the boot in place
