Heater Fan - Remains At High and/or Water Leak
BULLETIN NO. 350
DATE:
July, 1989
SUBJECT:
BLOWER MOTOR FAN INCREASES TO AND REMAINS AT HIGH SPEED AND/OR WATER LEAK ONTO FRONT
PASSENGER FOOTWELL
MODELS:
ALL 405 VEHICLES
COMPLAINT:
Heater and A/C blower motor fan increases to and remains at maximum speed, regardless of blower control switch position. Also, water leakage may
appear in the area of the front passenger footwell.
REASON:
A/C evaporator drain hose may have become plugged with leaves and debris entering through the air intake and blower fan. Once the A/C is in use,
water condensation from the evaporator carries the debris to the end of the A/C drain hose and eventually plugs it closed.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This repair is to be performed on all 405 models at PDI or during routine maintenance, or upon customer complaint on cars in service.
-
The A/C evaporator drain hose is located on the inside of the engine compartment on the right side of the firewall and is accessible from
underneath the vehicle.
-
Open the flap on the end of tile A/C drain hose to allow water to drain out.
-
Cut 13mm (1/2") off the end of the A/C drain hose.
-
Make sure that the hose is pointing down at approximately 45~ to the right and that it is not obstructed or in contact with the engine heater
hose.
-
Install the cowl weatherstrip (P/N 0086.28) onto the upper edge of the plastic air intake grille as per Service Bulletin No. 339, Class 13 (if
this modification has not already been performed).
To speed up the drying process of the blower motor/module assembly, remove the 3 mounting screws and blow it dry using compressed air.
UPDATING THE MODIFICATION STICKER:
