A/T - Shift Quadrant Lights Only With Headlights ON

SUBJECT:
SHIFT QUADRANT ILLUMINATION
On early 1986 Model Year Vehicles with automatic transmission, the shift quadrant is illuminated only when the parking lights or headlights are on,
rather than with the key switch as on later model vehicles.
If owners of these vehicles desire the shift quadrant illumination to be upgraded, it can be done AT THEIR EXPENSE, in accordance with the following
procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED: Shift Quadrant Illumination Wiring Harness 9255811180 (special order)
PROCEDURE:
1.
Remove radio and radio console.
2.
Lift shifter concealer and disconnect wires from shift quadrant light. Pull the wires into the radio compartment. These wires go to a 2 pin connector
from which either the ash tray or front cigar lighter illumination circuits are fed. Disconnect the 2 pin connector from its power source (wires 14R
and M25R or 25A and M25A) and also from the respective bulb holder (ash tray or cigar lighter). Attach the above wires directly to the bulb
holder and reinstall it.
3.
Open the glove box and remove the accessory power board. Plug the new harness into the available opening on the accessory power board.
Reinstall the accessory power board.
4.
Route the harness through the harness clamp on the firewall (left of ignition E.C.U.) and then under the glove box support into the radio
compartment.
5.
Route the harness along the right side of the console, looping it behind the window switch wiring at the back of the shift console, then forward on
the left side to the quandrant light. Connect the wires to the quadrant light. Tuck the wires down on the side of the console keeping them as far
from the shifter as possible.
6.
Momentarily turn on the ignition key to be sure the indicator is illuminated. Reinstall the shifter concealer.
7.
Tuck any remaining slack along the right side of the radio compartment. Reinstall radio console and radio.
Suggested Installation Time:
00.50 Hours. This is not considered to be a defect in material or workmanship. Therefore, modifications made in
accordance with this bulletin cannot be claimed under the Warranty System.
