BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR LIGHT STAYING ON 1986 MODELS
THIS BULLETIN SUPERCEDES SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 167
Complaint:
The brake warning indicator light may stay on when the ignition key is released slowly after starting the engine. If you should experience
this complaint perform the repair procedure indicated below. Do not replace the two-tone chime.
Part Required:
1 female terminal P.N. 6541.22
Special Tool Required:
"PRONER" crimping pliers P.N. 9788.16
Repair Procedure:

Remove soundproofing panel above brake/clutch pedal assembly (two 10 MM head nuts)

Pull down wiring connectors insulating sleeve located over left side of steering column cover
-
Remove insulating sleeve
-
Early 1986 production vehicles are not equipped with this sleeve. The connectors are mounted on the soundproofing panel.

Locate light brown 3 pin connector (HC 110) (On GL models this is a single unplugged 3 pin connector)

Cut wire no. 82A from connector HC 110 as close as possible to connector. Strip approximately 3 MM (1/8") of insulation.

Locate and disconnect brown 10 pin connector (HC 24, largest connector in bunch)

Open connector housing on female terminal side and remove wire no. 52 from pin 5 of connector HC 24

Cut the female terminal on wire 52 and strip approximately 3 MM (1/8") of insulation
-
Insert stripped wire Nos. 82A and 52 into new terminal PIN 6541.22 and firmly close plier (slot 4 of "PRONER" crimping pliers)

Crimp insulation (slot 6 of "PRONER" crimping pliers)

Test crimp by applying a pull to new terminal

Insert new terminal with wires 82A and 52 into pin 5 of 10 pin connector HC 24. Lock connector cover housing and reconnect
Reinstall:

Connector insulating sleeve
-
Soundproofing panel above brake clutch pedal assembly
