Underhood Lamp: Description and Operation
CIRCUIT OPERATION
The underhood lamps are controlled by a switch located on the hood hinge, the traditional mercury switch is no longer used. Power for the lamps
is supplied on circuit F41. This circuit is protected by a 15 amp fuse located in cavity 11 of the Power Distribution Center (PDC). The F41 circuit
is also spliced internal to the junction block and supplies power to the coil and contact sides of the courtesy lamp relay.
The switch used in this system is normally OPEN with the hood CLOSED. When the hood is opened the switch CLOSES supplying a ground path
on circuit M100 and circuit Z1. The Z1 circuit terminates at the right cowl panel.
On vehicles equipped with Vehicle Theft Security System (VTSS) the hood switch also provides an input to the Body Control Module (BCM) on
circuit G70.
