Radiator Cooling Fan Motor Relay: Testing and Inspection
The fan motor relay is used on models equipped with A/C, except for 1985---87 models with 2.2L/4-135 engines and 1986---87 models equipped with
2.5L/4-153 engines. The relay is located on the lefthand shock absorber housing. If radiator fan switch and fan motor test results are satisfactory, but fan
motor will not operate the fan motor relay is then suspected. After replacing relay, disconnect wire connector from radiator fan switch and connect a 14
gauge jumper wire between wire connector terminals. Place ignition switch in the Accessory position. Fan motor should operate.
On models equipped with 2.6L/4-156 engines and others, the electric engine cooling fan relay also contains the time delay, which operates the cooling
fan when ignition is off and the radiator ambient temperature is 105° F or above.
