Thermostat: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

     Do not remove pressure cap while engine is hot or under pressure.

1.

Drain coolant to below level of thermostat housing.

2.

Remove radiator upper hose from engine.

3.

Remove two retaining bolts, water outlet fitting, gasket and thermostat.

4.

Clear mating surfaces and close drain.

INSTALLATION

1.

Reverse removal procedures to install.

2.

Install thermostat so that the flange seats in recess of intake manifold and thermostat case.

3.

Install retaining bolts, torquing to 12-14 lb-ft.

4.

Ensure that drain is closed, then refill coolant. Replace cap, start engine until warm. Check of leaks, then recheck coolant and fill if necessary.
