Prowler V6-3.5L VIN G (1999)
Heated Glass Element Relay: Testing and Inspection
1. Check fuses.
a. Fuse 5 in the fuse block.
b. Fuse 12 in the Power Distribution Center.
2. Remove the rear window defogger relay (EBL) from Micro Relay Bank. Refer to Rear Window Defogger Relay Chart.
3. Using voltmeter, test battery voltage:
a. Test rear window defogger relay terminals 36 for battery voltage. If voltage is OK, go to Step b. If voltage is not OK, repair A4 circuit.
b. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Test rear window defogger relay terminals 34 for battery voltage. If voltage is OK, go to Step c. If
voltage is not OK, repair F20 circuit between terminal 34 and fuse 5 in the fuse block.
c. Connect a ohmmeter between terminal 32 of the instrument panel relay bank and ground. Press the rear window defogger button on the HVAC.
It should have continuity. Press button a second time and no continuity. Continuity will remain for 10 minutes. The first time the button is
pressed and at 5 min, on subsequent cycle of switch or until the button is pressed a second time. If OK, go to Step 4. If not OK, go to Step d.
d. Check continuity between:
Terminal 32 of the relay bank and terminal 74 of the BCM connector.
II. Terminal 5 of the HVAC connector and terminal 38 of the BCM connector.
III. If OK, go to Step e. If not OK, repair wiring.
e. Refer to HVAC Control Module Test. If OK, replace the BCM. If not OK, replace HVAC control module.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Place a jumper wire between terminals 35 and 36 of the relay bank. Place hand on the rear window
defogger grid to feel if grid is heating up (3-4 minutes), replace the relay. If not OK, check for voltage across the grid and repair wiring If OK,
refer to Grid Line Test.
