ABS - Hydraulic Unit Rumbles on Low Speed Stops
NO: 05-11-95 Rev.A
GROUP: Brakes
DATE: Sep. 22, 1995
SUBJECT:
Anti lock Brakes System (ABS) Activates Below 10 MPH
NOTE:
This bulletin supersedes Technical Service Bulletin 05-11-95, dated Sep. 8, 1995, which should be removed from your files. The revision involves a
correction to a labor operation number, the revision is highlighted with **asterisks**.
MODELS:
1996 (NS) Town & Country/Caravan/Voyager
1996 (GS) Chrysler Voyager (European Market)
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Under low speed braking conditions (under 10 MPH) the brake pedal vibrates, and a rumbling noise can be heard from the ABS hydraulic unit.
DIAGNOSIS:
Road test the vehicle with a Scan Tool (DRB III) connected. Decelerate slowly from 15 to zero MPH while monitoring the DRB III's ABS wheel speed
sensor output screen and determine which wheel speed sensor signal drops to zero first.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
This bulletin involves either adjusting the wheel speed sensor to tone wheel gap or replacing a wheel speed sensor.
1.
Measure the gap between the wheel speed sensor and the tone wheel for the wheel whose signal dropped to zero first, as determined in the
Diagnosis section of this bulletin.
Gap Specifications:
Front Wheel - .014 in. - .059 in. (.36 mm - 1.50 mm)
Rear Wheel - .020 in. - .053 in. (.50 mm - 1.36 mm)
NOTE:
The Tone Wheel must be severely damaged to effect this symptom/condition and before it would require replacement.
2.
If the wheel speed sensor gap is found to be within specifications, go to step 3. If the wheel speed sensor gap is found to be out of specifications,
remove the wheel speed sensor head attaching bolt and reposition the sensor. Install the wheel speed sensor head attaching bolt and torque to 75 -
105 in. lbs. (10 - 12 Nm). Go to step 4.
3.
Replace the speed sensor. Torque the wheel speed sensor head attaching bolt to 75 - 105 in. lbs. (10 - 12 Nm).
4.
Verify the wheel speed sensor to tone wheel gap is now within specifications. Repeat step 2 until a gap that is within specifications obtained or, if
necessary, replace the sensor.
5.
Road test the vehicle to verify the symptom/condition is corrected.
