Wheel Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

Front Wheel
1.
Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel.
2.
Disconnect sensor electrical connector from wiring harness.
3.
Remove sensor attaching bolts, Fig. 97, then the sensor.
4.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. On all models except 1989-90 6000, torque sensor attaching bolt to 84 inch lbs. On 1989-90 6000 models, torque sensor attaching bolt to 53
inch lbs.
b. If wheel sensor is reused, adjust air gap to .028 inches on 6000 models. On all models except 6000 the wheel sensor is automatically adjusted
when installed. New sensors come equipped with a paper spacer which will properly gap the sensor when placed against speed sensor ring.
c. On 1989-90 6000 models, torque sensor lock bolt to 19 inch lbs. On all other models, torque sensor lock bolt to 22 inch lbs.
d. Ensure wire does not come in contact with suspension parts.
