Thermal Vacuum Valve - EVAP: Testing and Inspection

COLD CHECK

1. With engine coolant temperature below the calibration point, connect a vacuum gauge to the upper port and a vacuum pump to lower port--Fig 32. 
2. Apply vacuum, then disconnect pump. The gauge should indicate that the vacuum is slowly bleeding off. 
3. Replace valve if operation is not as specified.

WARM CHECK

1. With engine coolant temperature above the calibration point, make the same connections as in the "Cold Check"--Fig 32..
2. Apply a vacuum.  The vacuum gauge reading should equal the vacuum applied at the pump. 
3. Disconnect the vacuum pump from the valve. 
4. The reading on the vacuum gauge should drop to zero immediately. 
5. Replace valve if operation is not as specified.

NOTE:  Refer to the number stamped on the base of the switch or valve for calibrated switching or activation temperatures.
