PROTECTIVE EXTERIOR PAINT BARRIER COATING - ALL 1988 VEHICLES
In the near future, Pontiac will start using a protective exterior paint barrier coating. The 1988 Grand Prix will be the first vehicle to receive this
protective, milky, wax-like paint coating. A pint container of concentrated detergent remover will be shipped loose in each vehicle and must be used in a
diluted solution to remove the coating.
Since the remover will be shipped loose in the vehicle, it is important to note any shortage on the Transportation Delivery Receipt. If a damaged or
missing container is noted, replacement may be ordered directly from the supplier:

The use of the supplied remover is a direct replacement for the normal new vehicle wash; therefore, the time allowance for New Vehicle Inspection is
unchanged. Complete environmental information may be obtained by contacting the supplier.
Following are helpful instructions when using the remover and environmental information for your files.
GENERAL MOTORS TRANSIT COATING REMOVER
Additional dealer instructions for the removal of the transit coat are as follows:

The instructions on the bottle of remover must be followed exactly in order to successfully remove the coating. Whether applying the remover by
hand or by spray, a very wet lather (suds) must be produced and allowed to remain wet and in contact with the coating for a minimum of 40-60
seconds. If the remover is not well lathered or dries on the coating, the removal process must be repeated in full. A complete rinse is then required.

To insure ease of removal, the coating must be removed from vehicles no later than 4 months after receipt of the vehicle by the dealer.

Coated vehicles with excessive dirt or with any visual etch should be rinsed well by the dealer upon receipt of the vehicle. If contaminants or any
evidence of etch remains after rinsing, the coating should be removed immediately so that the contaminants will not have sufficient time to fully
penetrate the coating and reach the paint surface. If the coating surface appears to be clean and unbroken, the coating can be left on the vehicle in
the lot for up to 4 months. All vehicles should be rinsed before removal of the coating to avoid scratching the paint surface.

Coated areas of the vehicle which may need special attention during removal include windows, wiper arms and blades, window molding,
horizontal areas of bumpers/fascias, tires, wheel covers, door handles, and trim. There have been reports of clogged windshield wiper mist holes
due to the coating remaining on wiper arms.
This information should assist in a more effective removal of the coating.
