Image Ghosting
Image ghosting is an expected phenomenon with a Head-Up Display (HUD) system. The ghost is a faint, secondary image which appears above or next
to the brighter, primary image. Ghosting may be in the vertical or horizontal direction. Refer to the figure above for the maximum amount of ghosting on
the speedometer digits that could be seen for any image position.
A complaint of unacceptable ghosting may occur after a windshield replacement if a HUD windshield was not installed. HUD windshields are selected
by sorting non-HUD windshields for acceptable image ghosting. A HUD windshield from GMSPO will have a removable HUD sticker attached to it.
To verify the amount of ghosting, view the HUD image from both a high and low head position, using the image adjuster control. Have another person
view the HUD image also. Three-power binoculars (opera glasses) are helpful in determining the amount of ghosting.
