Oil Change Reminder Lamp: Service and Repair
HOW TO RESET THE OIL LIFE MONITOR OR CHANGE OIL SOON INDICATOR
WIth Standard Driver Information Center
This indicator will light when the system predicts that the oil's remaining life is almost up. The system predicts remaining oil life using travel
distances, coolant temperature, engine RPM, and vehicle speed inputs. This indicator alerts the driver to change the oil on a schedule consistent with
the vehicle's driving conditions. Reset this indicator after every oil change.
Procedure To Rest The CHANGE OIL SOON Indicator
1. Turn the ignition to the "ON" or "RUN" position without starting the engine.
2. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds.
Note: The CHANGE OIL SOON light should flash.
3. Turn ignition switch OFF, then start the vehicle.

If the "CHANGE OIL" light comes back on, the light has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
NOTE: It is necessary to press the pedal all the way to the floor (WOT). In some cases, it may be necessary to manually operate the throttle
linkage under the hood to get enough throttle opening to make the light reset.
WiTh Optional Trip Computer
If the vehicle is equipped with the U40 option code, the vehicle has an OIL LIFE MONITOR. The oil life monitor shows the percentage of the oil's
remaining useful life. The system predicts remaining oil life using travel distances, coolant temperature, engine RPM, and vehicle speed inputs. Reset
this monitor after every oil change.
Procedure To Reset The OIL LIFE MONITOR
1. Press the "MODE" button on the trip calculator until the light appears next to "OIL LIFE."
2. Press and hold the trip calculator "RESET" button (approx. 3 seconds) until the oil life percentage changes to "100%."
NOTE: The oil life monitor can also be reset using a TECH 2 scan tool. Refer to the tool operating manual.
